Halfway through 2012, SDCC and Beyond

And so here we are halfway through 2012, we had SDCC last week and Botcon is long gone, so what's changed and what does the future hold? I moved house a couple of months ago and so now have the space to display my entire collection which I'm delighted about, although I haven't been able to buy any extra shelves yet so a lot of stuff is still boxed up.

I deliberately have displayed things which were in storage before, so my Transformers Classics and Marvel Universe collections are the victims of the lack of shelving. It has enabled me to re-appreciate my G1 collection though which is pretty cool. I'm currently investigating various stands for my figures so as to make a more interesting display, hopefully the days of just standing everything in a line is over. Will probably be expensive though.

For my collecting interests SDCC had fairly modest reveals, Transformers wise, Grimlock was awesome news, I think I'll also collect the cassettes which means getting Soundwave and two repaints/remolds, Soundblaster and Blaster. Marvel Universe finally revealed an Elektra, plus Mysterio and Emma Frost. It occurred to me after the Con that with both of my main collecting interests that I'm very happy with everything I've got and although I'd love to see them completed, I wouldn't be devastated if they were cancelled (once I get all the planned stuff). In the event I think I'll get everything I want eventually, be it very gradually over several years from other sources such as movie lines (Marvel) and third parties (Transformers).

Bandai seem to have utterly dropped the ball on 6" (or even 8" figures) Thundercats figures. But where Bandai have failed, Diamond have delivered. They revealed pretty much an entire set of Thundercats Minimates. Not exactly what I want, but will fill the gap until someone finally gives us the articulated classic figures we want.

Given the lack of Marvel Universe reveals I ventured onto eBay and bought several figures which fit into it - Legends Mojo and Blackheart, Select Uatu and Mephisto and Sasquatch from the late 90's Alpha Flight line. When I get my shelves I look forward to displaying them!

Happy 2012!

Okay so I may have missed the window on the Happy New Year greetings, but hey, it's gonna be an awesome year - Avengers, Spider-Man and Batman movies, second season of the Avengers EMH cartoon, 40 Transformers Generations toys including Shockwave plus plenty more Marvel Universe. Wooo!

So time to see how I did on my 2011 wants (this is cheating slightly since we've already had Toy Fair, but since there were next to no reveals I'll let it go). I also specified sizes with some of them but I'll ignore that (mostly). Green for yay!

01. Invisible Woman
02. Elektra
03. Doctor Strange
04. Professor X
05. Rogue
06. Beast
07. Psylocke
08. Emma Frost
09. Jubilee
10. Black Bolt
11. She-Hulk
12. Pyro
13. Quicksilver
14. Toad
15. Avalanche
16. Mr Sinister
17. Omega Red
18. Abomination
19. Kingpin
20. Kraven the Hunter
21. Sandman
22. Penguin
23. Riddler
24. Bane
25. Mr Freeze
26. Azrael
27. Blitzwing
28. Sandstorm
29. Trailbreaker

45. Mumm-Ra w/Mumm-Mutt
46. Slithe
47. Jackalman
48. Monkian
49. Vultureman
50. Robotnik

I count that as 14, I did quite well on X-men, shockingly badly on everything else! Marvel Universe is brilliant and they continue to announce great figures, but with the 90's (cartoon) X-men finally being completed, I'm at the point I will have every thing I really want. That's not to say there's not another 20 or so figures I'd love to see.

Transformers Generations rolls on, I guess because last year was a movie year not much was doing Classics wise, so that looks set to be rectified with the 40 or so figures we're supposed to be seeing. Could be a great Botcon!

Bandai just don't seem to have a clue with Classics Thundercats, they started out with 8" which I wasn't impressed with, but once I finally got my hands on them I was perfectly happy. They then announce 6" figures which I've yet to see, but 2 figures in each scale is frankly shit. There was no indication of anything better to come at Toy Fair, so who knows what they're doing. I'd love to see all the figures I listed, but really I'd be happy with the core Thundercats and Mumm-Ra. SDCC, maybe? Otherwise hopefully Warner Bros will give the license to someone who actually cares.

My hopes for the next year:
