Happy New Year! Quiet start to the year but there are a couple of Lego sets I’m in the market for - a (Sonic the Hedgehog) Knuckles set (with a mech for him for some weird reason) and the X-Jet - with Cyclops and Rogue! No rush but I’ll get them before the year is out. Actually, I still need to get the Tails bi-plane set from last year, still no rush just yet though.
It’s taking a while for my brain to get used to not having so much new stuff, I find myself mindlessly looking for news on new things that are coming out. Will be a little while before I get used to the idea that there’s just less stuff for me now. There should be less catching up again this year. I’ve made a list of everything I intend to buy this as well as everything I might buy and it’s looking like less.
Marvel Legends I think I might only be getting a couple of figures (excited for the rumoured Odin), I’m almost done with Thundercats, I’m pretty much done with Turtles, Star Wars I might be getting one figure, Lego it might just be a couple of sets. There will be a few Streetfighter figures but I’ve paid for most of them already. Transformers looks like there will be less than last year. Could be a quiet year!
I’ve been trying to work out whether to collect Car Robots stuff since Takara suggest it’s G1, and thematically it feels a bit like Beast Wars II. I’ve had Scourge (Black Convoy) for years, and I got Generations Sky-Byte, sold it and then bought it again (because of Cyberverse). I’m sold on Optimus and Megatron (Flame Convoy and Gigatron), if they do new versions, for my leader collection. I was pretty sold on team bullet train (JRX) and after seeing Railspike was on the Lost Light in IDW I’m definitely sold (having a small collection of Transformers trains appeals also). I quite like the idea of having Ruination (Baldigus) and Brave Max, but wasn’t sure on the colours (G1 Bruticus works so much better!). I put a bid on a vintage Baldigus but got outbid and actually, I wasn’t disappointed at all so I think I’ll leave it. I like the look of the Unite Warriors version more so maybe I’ll see if they ever do a new version. With Brave Max, it would be quite neat to have the three Maxes on the same mold, but equally it would be neat to have some version of the G1 mold. They’re all super expensive though and so I’ll just leave it for now. I might be sold on the Autobot Brothers, if I had Optimus with the trains and bros that’s quite a decent lineup of the ‘main’ Autobot characters (opposite Megatron, Sky-Byte and Scourge).
Father Christmas brought me the Lego Avengers Tower for Christmas! This is the most expensive toy I’ve ever bought. I’ve decided I’m going to do one bag a day, it will last well over a month. I’ve had a particularly crazy idea - I’ve been thinking about how I might build a Turtle lair. Official Lego base plates don’t allow building underneath, but some unofficial ones do, so I’ve switched the base plate. Might be fun to add a few subterranean levels, actually both the Ghostbusters Firehouse and Sanctum Santorum should have basements. And what about my Iron Man armoury?
(I think the Lego Iron Man armoury is the toy I have played with the most by far as an adult. It’s great! Actually, so great that I might have to permanently retire my old 3.75” armoury for space reasons.)
I watched the trailer for the new Ghostbusters film and thought it looked good, I was inspired to finally watch Afterlife. Really enjoyed it and so was inspired to buy these! They were my last buy of the year and before I try and go a whole month without buying anything (‘dry January’). I’ve also listed a load of carded figures on eBay that I didn’t use for my customs last year. Feeling positive for the new year.
